The subject for this piece was landscapes. We used oil pastels to create the landscape we chose. My reference for this piece was a picture I took in California when I was looking at a sunset. My favorite this about this piece is the value, contrast, and balance. I used value effectively by having deep dark values in the rocks and edges of the water and by creating highlights in the spaces where the sun shined. The contrast in this piece was with the sun rising in a dark scene. I used balance effectively by tweaking the reference photo by making the rocks drop towards the middle making the sun stand out and keep the piece centered.
